Revere Beach Adventure

I'm going to be real honest for a second. The city of Boston rocks. There are many reasons why, but right now I'm thinking specifically about a project I had to film a couple weekends ago. My partner and I decided that we wanted to film something on a beach. Well I knew there was a beach nearby, but I had no idea if it was going to be easy to get there (with all the equipment).
So I did a little research and realized that Revere Beach was only thirty minutes away and we could get there on the T. First we took the Green Line to Government Center and then changed to the Blue Line. The Blue Line runs from Government Center to Wonderland. I find this hilarious because of what the word Wonderland means to younger kids, and especially to people who have seen Alice in Wonderland. For those of you that haven't, it's the opposite of what Government Center would be in that kind of world.
So we take the T to Revere Beach, the second to last stop, and I was in awe. It wasn't just a small beach north of Boston, but instead a gorgeous expanse of sand and the sea. And oddly enough I thought I could just point out a lighthouse from the Cape while standing on the beach.

Now, it was freezing that day and I would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't so cold, but it's not about that. It's about the fact that I only had to travel 30 minutes on a train to reach the Atlantic Ocean and about appreciating the kind of place Boston is and the places around it.

But as the semester winds down I find myself praying for summer so I can go to the beach for real.

Where is Spring?

March is the worst month. I've spent a lot of time thinking about it recently because of the perpetual bad weather. Boston is gorgeous in the summer and it even has its moments in the winter, but those transition months between fall and winter and winter and spring are awful.

I think March is the worst though because you know spring is close, but its just not quite there. At least in November you have Thanksgiving and it's almost winter break and all, March doesn't have anything, except St. Patrick's Day (although being only 20 I can't really celebrate).

The past couple weeks have been really difficult, there was Spring Break which was awesome, but its over now. I have another couple weeks of dreary weather before I get to see spring bloom all around the city. I'm looking forward to the end of the semester, but at the same time I'm starting to worry about finding an internship.

There is a lot going on in March and to have it be such a drab month doesn't make me want to be productive. Oh well, there's nothing I can really do to change it. Hopefully in a couple weeks the sun will come out and stay out.

On the happiest note I can find: the week is half over and the sun is setting later. So at least we are getting somewhere!

Bostonian Adventures

It's been a while. I've been busy with school and such, but lots of things have been happening. I've been going on Bostonian adventures, specifically to try and learn my way around the city. It's been a really cool experience.

I went to the Garment District and waded through the pile of clothes. I was told there was a large pile of clothes at this place where you could pay $1 for every pound of clothing. Well I didn't think it'd take up half of the first floor of the building, or for it to be more like a pool than an actual pile of clothes. I eventually left with a couple new shirts and even a new pair of jeans, it was definitely a fun place to experience.

I've also been wandering around closer to school and it's been fun learning about what is right outside my door. I've traversed to the Borders and F.Y.E along with a used bookstore that has an entire Shakespeare section.

And of course I used both expeditions to take hundreds of pictures of the city.

Slow Shutter Speed Saturday

I like alliterations.

This weekend (after a difficult two weeks of school work and meetings for new organizations) I went to Northeastern University to visit a friend of mine. He told me to bring my camera to take pictures of the view from his room and although I couldn't really understand why, it was later when I got there that I realized how beautiful it was.

His room overlooks the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Using an extremely low shutter speed and a make-shift tripod of video games and boxes, I was able to capture the view.

Everything in the city makes me feel different and I now have the urge to live without looking back into the past. The only way I will be happy where I am is to be content with where I came from.

Officially a 20-Something

Another week has passed here in Boston and it ended the same way as the others, a fun weekend traversing the new city I call home.

For the first time since leaving for college, which has only been a year and a half, my parents were able to come see me for a night. I turned 20 on Thursday, January 27 and my parents drove into the city on Saturday to take the Bostonian Triforce to dinner. Which led to the first annual Bostonian Movie Night.

Have you ever seen Donnie Darko?
Because I have. Five times.
I'm still more than confused.

After an intense hour long discussion we still couldn't figure out exactly what was going on near the end of the movie, so we gave up and moved on.

Things are beginning to pick up at school now that clubs and organizations have started. I'm excited to see where this year is going to take me.

Bostonian Triforce

I'm sure most of you have either played Zelda, specifically the Ocarina of Time, watched someone else play or at the very least know of it. If not please improve your life by playing it or at least checking it out, even if you can't actually play - like me.

Not that any of that has to do with the city of Boston itself, but more about the people I am able to hang out with now that I'm no longer living in North Carolina. Back in my New England hometown I have a crew of people, seriously we call ourselves the Crew, that I spend the majority of my time with. Now that I am no longer 800 miles away this fact remains the same.

Tonight I was able to hang out with two of my best friends in the wicked city of Boston.

After a tiring week (the first week of class) and an exhausting day at the Org Fair (where as I signed up for everything like a true Emersonian) I caught the T and headed down to Kenmore Square.

After an extremely long dinner (including a delicious dessert) and a chat in a science building I found myself waiting for the T at 11 pm in the frigid city. So what does my friend decide to do? Walk around in the snow between the tracks and create a Triforce.

Although it is from a fictional game the triforce has become part of my life because of the amazing friends I have made in the past. I could not ask for anything more from them and in all honesty? What would be a better symbol of friendship. I mean seriously.

I would just like to give a shout out to the Crew and all they have done for me in the past and all I the adventures I hope to have in the future.

To the Bostonian Triforce: may the next two and a half years be absolutely rockin'.

Turning Back the Clock

So it has been two days. Two long days and I feel like a freshman again.

I guess I should start at the beginning if this is to make any sense. I am a sophomore transfer student at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. It took me a while to find this place. When I was a senior in high school in a small Massachusetts town I decided that I didn't want to be close to home - so I ran away. I applied to Elon University, a school in the middle of North Carolina - at least seven hours from anyone I knew.

It took only a few months for me to realize that I missed my friends, my family and the northeast. I found myself wishing that I had applied to Emerson and exactly two years after I applied to college the first time, I found myself applying a second time. I must say that it wasn't any easier the second time around.

But it was all worth it because here I am. So this blog is just to help me figure out where I'm going from here. All I can say is this is a chance for me to rewind the clock and try again somewhere new.
